Uncanny Canyon: Algorithmic Instrumental Works

The concept of this album is based on a simple idea: imagine an improvising algorithmic virtual orchestra. Both traditional and extended playing techniques are employed in a free-style manner beyond particular style – and human playability. No real musicians are involved; in place of a conductor there is just somebody writing code producing sounds, and intervening when needed (in a way that could mostly be described as "live coding") instead of making theatrical gestures. Human and machine agency are indistinguishable and intertwined in a strange loop.
Majority of the tracks originated as a real-time generative process with no beginning and no end. However, for the purpose of this release, start and stop commands were executed appropriately. No edits or overdubs were made.

Voices in track 2 are based on selected a capella samples from the 90s club classics. Voice in track 7 was generated in real time by a neural network (IRCAM's RAVE models for neural synthesis). Track 12 was entirely generated by Audiocraft text-to-music neural network with a custom prompt. Various orchestral sample libraries and synthesis tools were used together with SuperCollider programming language.
